Obituary of Robert Charles Bair

CAMDEN - Robert C. “Bob” Bair, went home to his Heavenly Home Monday, February 6, 2012. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Camden First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Hancock officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship center. Burial will follow the service in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Born in Florence, S.C, on January 17, 1928, he was the son of the late Robert Shields Bair and Olivia Kizer Bair. Bob was known by many friends and youth at First Baptist Church as “Papa Bair”, where he taught Sunday School for many years. He served as a Deacon, was active in Young at Heart and was a faithful volunteer at family night suppers. Bob attended the Citadel before serving in the United States Navy and was stationed in Portsmouth, Va. at the Naval Hospital working as a medic. He retired from DuPont after working 34 years, and enjoyed his workshop making wood crafts for gifts. He also enjoyed cooking, especially chocolate fudge, pecan pies, traveling with Young at Heart and going to Edisto Beach on family vacations. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Patterson “Dot” Bair; daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Bair Wooten and her husband, Jim Wooten of Valle Crucis, N.C.; grandchildren, Shannon Wooten of Blowing Rock, N.C., and Ryan Wooten of Valle Crucis, N.C.; brother-in-law, Daniel Patterson of West End, N.C.; and nephew, William Blackmon of West Columbia. He was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah “Debbie” Louise Bair; and a sister, Elizabeth Bair Blackmon. He is also survived by his special children, who he loved dearly, LaVerne and Marianne McKenzie, Len and Lena Williams, Brian and Alicia Williams, and Matt McKenzie. Finally he will be missed by his close companion, “Heidi”, his Daschound pet. A special thank you to Dr. Tullulah Holmstrom, Cheryl Maples, and the Agape Hospice Team, Jennifer Stokes, R.N., Louise Johnson, CNS, and Angela Thompson, MSW, for their loving care for Bob. Also a special thanks to Mike Bell with Aftercare Services. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Camden First Baptist Church or Agape Hospice, 700 West DeKalb Street, Camden ,S.C. 29020.
