Obituary of Harland E. Smith
Elgin - A graveside service for Harland Forbush “Smitty” Smith, 70, will be held Friday, January 20, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Children Hospital.
Mr. Smith passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Born in Milwaukee, Wis., he was the son of Ruth Ritchie, and the late Harold Smith. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years and fought in Vietnam, and served in Korea and Okinawa. He was a member of the Masons and Shriners. He enjoyed racing and working on cars.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Jan Smith; his mother, Ruth Ritchie of Oxford, WI.; sons, Gene Smith of Lexington, Bobby Donegan of Dickson, TN.; grandchildren Shannon Smith, Harrison Smith, Brendan Donegan, Kole Vancil; brother, Doug Forbush of Greenfield, WI.; sister, Helen Thompson of Wright, WY.; and step brother, Pete Smith of Montello, WI. He was predeceased by his father; daughter, Shannon Cohoon; and step fathers, Doug Forbush and Ed Ritchie.
Smitty lived life in the fast lane and always had a good joke. His Best friends, Larry and Jenny Stewart, and Todd Allred, were always there for him. He Passed Away with his family and friends, and loving dog, “Samantha”, by his side.
The family wishes to thank Dr. J. Richard Allison and his staff, and Community Home Care and Hospice, especially Liliane Johnson, and Barbara Paul for their loving care.
