Obituary of Billie B. Maples

LUGOFF – Funeral service for Billie Byrum Maples, 82, will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at North Trenholm Baptist Church, Columbia, with burial to follow in Springvale Baptist Church Cemetery, Lugoff, S.C. The Rev. Danny Wilson will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, S.C.. Memorials may be made to World Changers c/o North Trenholm Baptist Church. Mr. Maples, husband of the late Carolyn Geiger Maples, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013. Born in Rock Hill, S.C., he was the son of the late Ruffus Byrum and Gertrude Eula Gallman Maples. He served in the United States Air Force and retired from Allied Chemical and Inland Container. Mr. Maples was a Master Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge 395 Blythewood for 53 years and a member of the York Rite and Jamil Temple. He was also a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church for over 50 years and participated in World Changers for 16 years where he was known as “Big B”. He enjoyed being a handy man and volunteer for the community and was an avid gardener. Surviving are his daughter, Billie Cecelia Maples and granddaughter, Helena Grace Jean Rauch both of Lugoff; son-in-law, Melvin D. Christopher of Lugoff; brothers, Franklin D. Maples Sr. of Lugoff, Darryl B. Maples Sr. (Lorna Jean) of Lugoff; sisters, Millie Ward of Cassatt, Sylvia Maples Ivie (Loren) of Fayetteville, Ga., Jean Grafton of Blythewood, and Elizabeth McCarthey (Byron) of Lugoff, S.C.; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Carolyn Geiger Maples; a daughter, Cynthia Maples Christopher; grandson, David Michael Rauch; and a granddaughter, Lyssa Rauch.
