Obituary of Julia Elizabeth Sinclair

Julia Elizabeth Sinclair, daughter of the late Vernon and Lethia Sinclair, passed into the glory of Heaven and the presence of God on January 5, 2012. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Powers Funeral Home at 832 Ridgeway Road, Lugoff, S.C. burial will follow in Aimwell Cemetery, Ridgeway. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Camden or First Baptist Church of Ridgeway. Elizabeth was born in Camden, S.C., on November 7, 1920. She lived there for most of her life with her parents who owned and operated the old Camden Hotel. Crippled from birth, Elizabeth could be seen walking on her crutches around town or riding her large three-wheeled bike during her earlier years. Her beloved sister, Myrtle, was always nearby. She was active in her Sunday school at First Baptist Church of Camden and even worked in the church library for a while. As the years passed, Elizabeth devoted much of her time to writing poetry based on scripture verses. These were given as gifts to everyone in the family on special occasions. When the Camden Hotel and family’s adjoining home were demolished in 1970, they moved to Ridgeway to be near Elizabeth’s sister, Myrtle Sinclair Thompson’s, family. There, Elizabeth became involved in her new church home, First Baptist Church of Ridgeway. She continued writing scripture based poetry, eventually self-publishing two small poetry books. Always an encourager, Elizabeth gave many of these away to uplift the receivers and give them a glimpse of the love of the Lord. Elizabeth’s last place of residence on this earth was at Karesh Long-term Care in Camden. For ten years selfless caregivers attended to her needs as she in turn smiled and laughed, filling their hearts with bits of joy. The family is very grateful and much indebted to all those who helped to make Elizabeth’s life a little brighter. You blessed her with your loving care. Included in this note of gratitude is Elizabeth’s faithful friend, Patsy Waters, who weekly visited her and fed her dinner. Thank you all so much. Elizabeth hopes to see us all one day in her final eternal place of residence- Heaven- where she can now walk and run as she has never been able to do before. She is survived by her sister, Myrtle May Sinclair Thompson, now of Wildewood Downs in Columbia and five nieces and a nephew: Julia Elizabeth “Betsy” Thompson Starnes, (John) of Brevard, N.C.; Ruth Sinclair Thompson Dumas, (Dave) of Florence, AL; Mary Susan Thompson Harrington (Rudy) of Columbia, S.C.; Lawrence Iverson “Larry” Thompson, III (Linda) of Shelby, N.C.; Lethia Ellen Thompson Roberts (Jim) of Ridgeway, S.C.; and Frances Frazier Thompson Snell (Warren) of Florence, S.C. She is also survived by 15 great nieces and nephews and 14 great-great nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, the late Vernon Hampton and Lethia Elmah Trapp Sinclair and brother-in-law, the late Lawrence Iverson “Larry” Thompson Jr. Pallbearers are Larry Thompson, John Starnes, Rudy Harrington, Jim Roberts, Kyle Van Galder, and David Evans.
