Obituary of Tina C. Sturgeon

COLUMBIA – Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: No one comes to the father except through me” John 14:6. Vivian “Tina” Craft Sturgeon was born on November 19, 1947, to the late Lonnie L. Craft and Frances Hammond Craft. She entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on July 24, 2013. Ms. Sturgeon graduated from Dreher High School in 1965 and received her Surgical Technician Certificate from Baptist Hospital. She worked at Palmetto Health Baptist as a surgical technician for 30 plus years where she was dedicated to her profession. She also worked with several local physicians and surgeons in the Columbia area. Tina also worked part-time at Rosewood Florist. Tina was a member of Calvary Baptist Church since the age of 8. She served as Sunday School teacher, GA leader, VBS leader and sang in the Choir. She currently attended the Hope Sunday School Class at Temple Baptist Church, where her son serves as Pastor. She is survived by her son, David Michael Sturgeon, his wife La’ai Numera Sturgeon; 3 grandchildren, Numera, Siona and Lani Sturgeon; brother, Lonnie Craft, Jr. (Linda); sisters, Jeannie Castine (Rusty), Bootsie Gleaton (Mickey), Melody Hill (Jody); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her son; Jeffery Mallard Sturgeon, and sister; Frances Craft Matthews. The family is assured today of her dwelling place in Heaven and pray that all reading this would possess the same “peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, [and] will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” She was a dedicated, Christian lady who was an inspiration to her family, friends, and co-workers, and who spent her life serving others. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 500 South Kilbourne Road, Columbia, S.C. 29205 with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church, 806 Universal Dr., Columbia, S.C. 29209.
