Obituary of Gino Jackson Strickland
COLUMBIA – Funeral service for Gino Jackson Strickland, 75, will be held Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, with burial to follow in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens, Elgin. The family will receive friends Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in memory of Mrs. Strickland and her mother Willie Jackson.
Mrs. Strickland died Monday, November 28, 2011. Born on November 8, 1936 in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas B. “Jack” and Willie Louise Peacock Jackson.
Mrs. Strickland was a well respected business woman in the Northeast area of Columbia for over 40 years. She was an interior decorator and owned and operated Metropolitan Interior Decorators for over 20 years. She taught night classes for Midlands Technical College. She built and operated Metro Apartments and Sequoia Place Apartments.
Mrs. Strickland was a woman to be admired and donated to many. She attended Calvary Community Church.
Surviving are her daughters, Judy Carroll Player and Pandora Yvonna Jackson; son, Jeffrey Lane Yasmine; step-daughter, Jeraldine S. Strickland; grandchildren, Ursula C. Windham, Dena M. Marlow, Mryriha-Ashley Graham, Jeffrey O. Yasmine, Jeremy B. Sessions, Justin L. Yasmine, Cristin M. Yasmine, and Elizabeth R. Wentz; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Florrie J. Chandler, Shirley J. Griffin, Linda J. Driggers, and Patricia A. Jackson; brother, Johnny O. Jackson. She was predeceased by husband, Jerry Strickland; great-grandson, Z. Ethan Windham; sisters, Mary J. Bateman and Tammi J. Ward; and brothers, Thomas E. Jackson, Robert D. Jackson, and Richard C. Jackson.
Thanks to all who tried to make her life as comfortable and peaceful during her last days especially her caregiver Beverly Geter.
She loved many and many loved her.
