Obituary of Mamie Pierce

ELGIN – Funeral service for Mamie Lou Taylor Pierce, 91, will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Blaney Baptist Church with burial to follow in Sandhill Heights Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Philip Blankenship, the Rev. Doyle Roberts, and the Rev. Evan Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital. Mrs. Pierce, wife of the late Curtis M. Pierce, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 8, 2011. Born in Aquone, N.C., she was a daughter of the late James Burch Taylor and Etta Smith Taylor. She was the former business owner of Mamie’s Hot Dog Stand and the Elgin Amoco. She was a political activist who supported the Republican Cause. Mrs. Pierce enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, gardening and cooking. She had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed taking care of her beloved pet dog, “Shelby”. She had a giving heart and always found pleasure in helping others. Mrs. Pierce was a contributor to numerous charities. She was a Christian woman who had a strong faith in the Lord. Surviving are her daughters, Frankie Pierce Peake of Elgin and Margie Etta Pierce of Elgin; grandchildren, Mia Harrelson (Mike), Wanda Thompson (Aaron), and Lynn Peake Dara (Steven); and great-grandchildren, Jessica Harrelson, Dawson Harrelson, Keaton Harrelson, Gavin Pierce Thompson, Garrett Peake Thompson, Steven “Scooby” Dara, Abigail “Abby” Dara and Lealon “LJ” Blume IV. She was predeceased by her brothers, Doc Taylor, Cope Taylor, Homer Taylor, and Gene Taylor; and sisters, Allie Bryant, Nora Bryant, Inez Rabbie, Alice Pendergrass, and Mettie Hooper.
