CASSATT – Funeral service for Carl Leonard Barkley, 77, will be held Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at Cassatt Baptist Church, 2604 Highway 1 North, Cassatt, S.C. 29032. The Rev. Donald Coppedge will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Mr. Barkley died Monday, August 15, 2011. Born in Sumter, he was the son of the late Bruce R. and Emmie Ingram Barkley. He loved dogs and worked as a dog trainer. He was a member of Cassatt Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Modene Barkley; daughters, Janet Catoe (Caldwell) of Camden, Marty Huggins (Jay) of Camden, and Marie Hightower (Davis) of Kershaw; a sister, Emily Gause; 5 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. He was predeceased by brothers, Hersley Barkley, Bruce Barkley, and James Barkley; and sisters, Athalia Zeigler, Tressie Beatson, Mattie Bonner, and Lucy Cockrell.
