CAMDEN – Funeral service for Walter “Gene” Gatlin, 60, will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. The family will receive friends Thursday 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Gatlin died Saturday, July 30, 2011 at home. Born in Sumter, he was a son of Margaret Wade Brown and the late Walter Gatlin Sr. He was a member of Willow Grove AME Church. He enjoyed fishing, restoring cars, gardening, bible discussions and most of all fellowship with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nora L. Gatlin; mother, Margaret Brown; sons, Wendell Gatlin (Nadja) of Atlanta, Ga., and Kenneth Michael Gatlin of Camden; brother, William Gatlin of New York; very special aunt, Louise Robinson; aunt Sarah Bowen; a grandson, Dominic Gatlin; and 2 step-brothers and 6 step-sisters. He was predeceased by his grandparents, William Wade Sr. and Sally Haile; step-father, Burnell Brown; and sister, Sally Gatlin Nickens.
