CAMDEN – Services for Gerald Helder, 90, will be private. Mr. Helder, husband of the late Lucia W. Helder, died Friday, June 10, 2011. Born in Holland, Mich., he was a son of the late John J. and Mary Grotenhuis Helder. He served in the United States Army in WW II. He was a Lieutenant with the 7th Infantry Division on Okinawa and received the Bronze Star medal for his heroism in an action atop Purple Heart Hill, one of Okinawa’s bloody battlefields. Mr. Helder was an artist and was a former Jockey in Camden. He was a member of Springdale Hall and Camden Hunt Club. Surviving are his daughters, Pamela Helder of St. John’s, Fla., and Christia Helder of Otis, Oregon; son, Gerald Matthew Helder of Austin, Texas; and granddaughters, Hannah Danielle and Avery Jordan.
