Obituary of Clyde I. Williams

LUGOFF – Services for Clyde I. Williams, Jr., 62, will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Rowan Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Lugoff with the Rev. Phil McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in Quaker Cemetery, Camden. Deacons and Elders of the church and members of the American Legion Post 17 will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Williams was born in Waynesboro, Va., on August 8, 1948, educated in Camden schools and received his A.B. degree from Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, N.C. He served in the United States Army from 1968 until 1971, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was the son of Betty Lou Williams and the late Clyde I. Williams. A member of Rowan Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, Mr. Williams served as Sunday School secretary-treasurer for over 15 years and served several terms as a Deacon. He was an active member in the James Leroy Belk Post No 17 of the American Legion for over 30 years, serving as Post Historian for 20 years. Mr. Williams’ employment career included Camden Archives, Pinkerton, Inc., S.C. State Museum, Wateree Textile Corp., Kawashima Textile, Inc., and US Security Associates, Inc. Mr. Williams is survived by his mother; a sister, Sarah W. Jowers and her husband, Victor of Camden; 2 nephews, Eddie Deese and his wife, Lori of Lugoff, and Andrew Deese and his wife, Mary Kay of Spartanburg; 6 beloved great-nieces and nephews, Matheson, Davis, and Max Deese of Lugoff, and Hannah, Celia and Nicholson Deese of Spartanburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Rowan Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 818 Ridgeway Road, Lugoff, S.C. 29078. Clyde Williams was a man of integrity who loved his country, loved his God and loved his family.
