Obituary of Charles Ingram Welch

FROSTPROOF, FLA. – Funeral service for Charles Ingram “Charlie” Welch, 69, formerly of Lugoff, will be held Thursday at 5:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. The Rev. Richard Cameron will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Victory Junction, 4500 Adam’s Way, Randleman, N.C. 27317. Mr. Welch died Sunday, April 24, 2011 at the Lake Wales Medical Center in Lake Wales, Fla. Born on May 23, 1941 in Clarendon County, S.C., he was the son of the late Clyde William Welch and Glennie W. Harrell. After retiring from E.I. DuPont in Camden, he enjoyed golfing, camping, and was an avid sports fan particularly the Atlanta Braves and NASCAR. He enjoyed part time employment with Richard Petty Enterprises taking show cars around to different venues. He and his wife moved to Frostproof Florida 10 years ago and resided at Rainbow Resort where he was loved by all that knew him. Surviving are his wife, Mabel W. Welch; sons, Ingram Welch (Lorrie) of Elgin, S.C. and McLeod Welch (Glenda) of Sumter, S.C.; step-daughters, Kim Hyatt (Tejon) of Seguin, Texas, and Renda Hodge (Lester) of Cassatt, S.C.; sister, Betty W. Driggers (Linwood) of Turbeville, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and step-father, Rev. Monroe Harrell of Florence, S.C.
