Obituary of Harold W. Hough

LUGOFF – Captain Harold Woellner Hough, 97, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2011 at home in Lugoff. Born in Camden, he was the son of the late Isaac Chalmers Hough and Minnie Augusta Woellner. Mr. Hough lived most of his life in Camden and later in Lugoff living with his son, Albert and family. Harold was a Captain in the United States Army and continued as an Army Reserve officer until his retirement. He served in World War II on the European Front and the Invasion of Normandy. He graduated from Camden High School and the University of South Carolina. Harold was a civil engineer, farmer, and cattleman. Mr. Hough married Elizabeth Pitts in 1950 and for 61 years they farmed and raised Hereford cattle on a farm outside Camden. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Louise Robinson (Heyward); four sons, Joel Hough, Albert Hough (Angela), Richard Hough (Olga), and George Hough. He also leaves five grandchildren, Paul Robinson, Eric Robinson, Nathan Robinson, all of Columbia, Cailyn Hough and Rebecca Hough, both of Lugoff. Visitation will be held Monday from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Jeter Cemetery in Carlisle, S.C. Memorials may be made to the Joseph B. Kershaw SCV Camp 82 to the Richard Kirkland Memorial Project, 42 Magnolia Lane, Lugoff, S.C. 29078.
