CASSATT – Funeral service for Herbert E. Gaskins, Sr., 88, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Beaverdam Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Richard Cameron will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday 7-9 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Mr. Gaskins, husband of the late Emma Mae Hayes Gaskins, died Sunday, April 03, 2011. Born in Bethune, he was a son of the late Joe B. and Minnie Jordan Gaskins. He retired from the United States Army having served in WW II, Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. After retiring from the Army, he worked for Civil Service, City Cab and operated a store. He enjoyed gardening and farming. Surviving are his daughters, Williene Young of Lugoff, Betty Carraway (Homer) of Camden, Virginia Watts (George) of Cassatt, Wendy Gaskins of Camden and Wanda Rogers (Dwaine) of Lugoff; sons, Herbert E. Gaskins Jr. (Velma) of Columbia and Tommy Lee Gaskins (Shirley) of Camden; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and great great-grandchildren, MaKenzie Watkins and Taylor Perry. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Racine Young; brothers, W.J. Gaskins and Francis Brantly; sisters, Annie V. Gardner and Eula Waters; and a great-grandchild, Kole Hinson.
