Obituary of Alliene Ray

CASSATT – Funeral service for Alliene Ray, 83, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Cassatt Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Donald Coppedge and Rev. Robert Brown will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8 at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Hightower. Memorials may be made to Gideon’s International, American Heart Association, or Cassatt Baptist Church. Mrs. Ray, wife of the late Carlee Ray for over 40 years, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 13, 2011. Born in Cassatt, she was a daughter of the late Willis Perry and Lula Peach Bowers. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading her Bible, and spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered as a very loving sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother and friend. Alliene was a member of Cassatt Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adelphia Sunday School Class and the Seniors Citizens Group. Surviving are her sons, Charles Belton Ray Sr. of Cassatt, Lester Earl Ray Sr. (Wanda) of Cassatt and Carl Matthew Ray (Shirley) of Kershaw; daughters, Etta W. Hall (Tim) of Cassatt, Wanda R. Baker (Randy) of Cassatt, Bobbie Hightower (Alan) of Kershaw, and Lesia A. Rollins (Jeff) of Monroe, N.C.; brother, Perry Bowers Jr. of Cassatt, 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 4 great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, Curtis Bowers, Almond Bowers, Pee Dee Bowers, Hazel Bowers, Hedrick Bowers, Frankie Lee Bowers, Everee Bowers, and Clinnon Bowers; sisters, Faye Mills and Louis Mills Brazell; daughter-in-law, Mary Ray, son-in-law, Wayne Watkins; and grandson, Lee Jo Ray.
