ELGIN - Funeral Services for Ben T. Collins, 67, will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Ken Jackson and Rev. Jerry Lewis will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Mr. Collins died Monday, December 27, 2010. Born in Elgin, he was the son of the late Chester and Frances Davis Collins. He served in Vietnam in the United States Navy. He retired from DuPont and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Carol Smith Collins; 2 sons, Jeff Collins (Tiffany) of Elgin, and Justin Collins (Amy) of Simi Valley, Calif.; 4 grandchildren, Nicole Collins, Andrew Collins, Ryan Collins, Jacob Collins; 3 brothers, Ray Barrett (Dorothy) of Elgin, William Collins (Norma) of Lugoff, and Larry Collins (Sofie) of Elgin; and sister-in-law, Sara Collins of Lugoff. He was predeceased by his brother, Curtis Collins.
