Obituary of Morris Kirton Phillips
COLUMBIA - Funeral service with military honors for MSgt Morris Kirton Phillips, Sr., U.S. Air Force (Ret’d), 85, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at North Trenholm Baptist Church with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the burial at 1098 Pepper Ridge Dr, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice or Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County.
Mr. Phillips died Saturday, June 9, 2007. Born in Godwin, N.C., he was a son of the late Samuel B. and Catherine Daisey Sineath Phillips. Having served in the United States Army Air Corp during WW II, he retired from the United States Air Force after 22 years. He served in the Air Force Inspector Generals office in Washington, D.C., the U.S. Embassy office of the Air Attaché in Havana, Cuba, and in the Intelligence and Physical Security at Eglin Air Force Base. He came to Columbia with the Air Force as their liaison for the Civil Air Patrol.
He was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church where he was member of the Bill Donahue Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Bertha Blackwell Phillips; son, Morris Kirton Phillips, Jr. and his wife, Sandra of West Columbia; daughters, Brenda Phillips Isaacson and her husband, Col. Roy Isaacson, U.S. Army (Ret’d) of Lugoff, and Alwanda Lea Pope of Honea Path; brother, Samuel B. Phillips and his wife, Marie of Orange Park, Fla.; sisters, Mildred Brisson of St. Pauls, N.C., and Catherine Hurst of Fayetteville, N.C.; grandchildren, Phillip Isaacson and his wife, Cindy of Orange Park, Fla., Lt. Col. Todd Isaacson, U.S. Army and his wife, Leeann of Fayetteville, N.C., Morris Kirton Phillips, III and his wife Melissa of Gastonia, N.C., Shane Phillips and his wife, Misty of West Columbia, Dean Schantz and his wife, Jane of Belton, S.C., and Christopher Schantz of Anderson, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Regan, Dustin, and Kendall Isaacson, Timothy and Autumn Phillips, Brandon and Kristena Schantz; mother-in-law, Gertha Blackwell of Reedsville, N.C; aunt-in-law, Barbara Horne of Randleman, N.C.; and two special people to Mr. and Mrs. Phillips, Dr. Aubrey Cartwright and Lindsey Youngblood.
