Obituary of Floyd Lasley

COLUMBIA-Funeral services for Dr. Floyd A. Lasley, 85, husband of Jaunita Jacobs (Micki) Lasley, will be held, Friday, at 4:00 p.m., August 20 at Harmony Baptist Church, Elgin, SC with burial to follow in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens, Elgin. Dr. Dan Griffin will officiate assisted by Scottie Jacobs. The family will receive friends Friday 2:30-4:00 p.m. prior to the service in the fellowship hall of the church. Floyd was born in Willow Springs, Mo., son the late Clarence and Dolores Lasley. He graduated from Willow Springs High School and University of Missouri, Columbia with a Ph.D. in Economics. He taught Vocational Agriculture in Missouri and retired from the United States Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. where he was leader of the Dairy and Poultry Divisions. He authored and co-authored several bulletins for USDA, some translated in Japanese. Floyd was noted for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. He courageously fought a 21 year battle with Parkinson’s, keeping a positive and loving outlook. He was a devoted member of Harmony Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, Chairman of the Deacons and Chairman of many other communities. Floyd is also survived by a son (Larry) (Mary) Lasley of Bromley, MO, a grandson, Christopher ( Christine) of Kirkville, Washington, two great granddaughters, Taylor and Gabriella Lasley of Kirkland, Washington and a brother, Adrian (Dot) of Springfield, MO. Active pallbearers will be his nephews; Scottie Jacobs, Tim Peake, Dwayne and Charnell Peake, and Paul and David Jacobs. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Friendship Sunday School class of Harmony Baptist Church, whom he loved. Memorial may be made to Harmony Baptist Church, 998 Tookiedoo Lane, Elgin, SC 29045
