Obituary of Mary Rabon Hudson

ELGIN - Mary R. Hudson, wife of the late Joe Hudson, died peacefully in her home on August 7, 2010, after an extended illness. Born in Blaney, SC to John Henry Rabon Sr. and Edith Blanche Summers Rabon on July 13, 1920, she was a graduate of Blaney High School where she was valedictorian of her class. She attended business school in Columbia, S.C. and worked as a bookkeeper for E. T. Bowen until her retirement in 2000. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and the “Busy Bees. She loved traveling to the beach and the mountains with her family and friends, loved reading and crossword puzzles. She was blessed to be surrounded by her family and friends throughout her whole life. She is survived by her six children, Joseph “Joe” Quinten Hudson (Dorothy), Judith “Judy” Allie Motley (Bubba), Robert “Bob” William Hudson (Linda), John Stanley Hudson (Debra), Francis Carroll Hudson (Mary), and Mary Jennifer Berger; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grand children; and a great grandson is due in September. She is also survived by her sister, Martha Adele Kelly; her brother, John Henry Rabon Jr. (Barbara); loving nieces and nephews; and her beloved miniature Doberman, “Dee Dee”. She is predeceased by her sisters, Helen Steadman, Mattie Branham, Jessie Mae Higgins, Blanche Virginia Monroe; and a brother, William Stanley Rabon. The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 9, 2010, at 4:00 at Union Baptist Church in Elgin, with internment following in Longtown Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Ridgeway. The Reverend Jerry Lewis will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. prior to the service in the fellowship hall at the church. As Mary always expressed her love and thanks, her family would like to thank Katie Watts, Tri County Hospice and Kershaw Home Health. Memorials may be made to Walter Crowe Animal Hospital, or to St. Jude Hospital.
