BETHUNE - Funeral service for Thomas Laverne Gainey, Sr., 77, will be held Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at Timrod Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Jim Wallace and Rev. David Robinson will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice. Mr. Gainey died Saturday, July 24, 2010. Born in Bethune, he was a son of the late James Redman and Annie Lucille Cassady Gainey. He served in the United States Army National Guard and retired from Kendall after 32 years. He was a member of Timrod Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir director. Mr. Gainey was an avid Gamecock fan and was a former Boy Scout Leader and softball coach. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Silveree Huggins Gainey; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann and Kenneth Spielman of Cassatt; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas L. Gainey, Jr. and Bunny Gainey of Bethune; brothers, Curtis J. Gainey of Bethune and Larry Glenn Gainey of Barnwell; sisters, Iris Draft of Lexington and Joan Horton of Bethune; grandchildren, Ashley Kyle Sullivan and his wife, Nicole, Thomas Brad Gainey and his wife, Allison, and Thomas L. Gainey, III; and great-grandchildren, Kayden Annabelle Sullivan, Thomas Hayden Gainey, Lyla Grace Gainey, Mallory McPherson, and Jared McPherson. He was predeceased by sister, Lillian Baker; and great-grandson, Garrett Sullivan.
