Obituary of Betty Jane McGee
LUGOFF – Funeral service for Betty Jane McGee, 78, will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at El-Bethel Faith Community Church with burial to follow in Hardshell Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Stines will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to El-Bethel Faith Community Church, 905 Longtown Road, Lugoff, S.C. 29078.
Ms. McGee passed away at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, October 11, 2012. Born in Ashville, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Johnny Johnson and Thelma Coker. She retired in 1991 from Allied Signal and worked in the 1950’s and 1960’s for Piggy Park in West Columbia.
Ms. McGee was a devoted Christian, mother, and friend who loved Jesus and enjoyed going to church and ministering to others. She was a member of El-Bethel Faith Community Church. She never met a stranger and had an outgoing personality. She enjoyed music, flowers, sewing, crocheting, and going to the beach and Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
Surviving are sons, Alvin McGee (Peggy) of Lexington, Rodger Bryan McGee of Lugoff and Danny Spires of Gaston, brother, Herman Capps (Mary) of Irving, Texas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Douglas Hensley; brothers, Frank Taylor and Burnice Johnson; and sister, Edna Bolton.
The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Ruben Mayer; her caregivers, Wanda Hensley and Debbie LeGrand; the staff of Hospice of Tri-County, Jackie Stokes, Sarah Hale-Hill, Jaleesa Drakeford and Dr. Mark Bredholt for their loving care.
She will be greatly missed by her poodle companion “Dolly”.
