Obituary of Bertha Phillips
COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Bertha Ellen Blackwell Phillips, 86, will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Rev. Faiger Blackwell will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday 10:30am – 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County.
Mrs. Phillips, wife of the late Morris Kirton Phillips, Sr., died Friday, April 23, 2010. Born in Cumberland County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Luther F. and Gertha A. Faircloth Blackwell. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed sewing.
Surviving are her son, Morris Kirton Phillips, Jr. and his wife, Sandra of West Columbia; daughters, Brenda Phillips Isaacson and her husband, Col. Roy Isaacson, U.S. Army (Ret’d) of Lugoff, and Alwanda Lea Pope of Honea Path; brothers, Earl C. Blackwell of Statesville, N.C. and Michael K. Blackwell of Reidsville, N.C.; sisters, Dale B. Coons of Reidsville, N.C.; grandchildren, Phillip Isaacson and his wife, Cindy of Fleming Island, Fla., Col. Todd Isaacson, U.S. Army and his wife, Leeann of Lorton, Va., Morris Kirton Phillips, III and his wife Melissa of Gastonia, N.C., Rev. Shane Phillips and his wife, Misty of West Columbia, Dean Schantz and his wife, Jane of Belton, S.C., and Christopher Schantz of Anderson, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Regan, Dustin, and Kendall Isaacson, Timothy, Autumn and Nicholas Phillips, Brandon and Kristena Schantz; and aunt, Barbara Horne of Randleman, N.C.; and two special people to Mr. and Mrs. Phillips, Dr. Aubrey Cartwright and Lindsey Youngblood. She was predeceased by brothers, Joseph F. Blackwell, Louis H. Blackwell, and John W. Blackwell.
The family expresses great appreciation to Dr. Steve Madden and the staff of Palmetto Health Hospice for their loving care.
