Obituary of Beverly Buzzell

PENDLETON, S.C. - Beverly Gray Buzzell passed away on April 17, 2010 in Lexington, SC. She was the loving wife of Ward V. Buzzell of Pendleton, SC; and mother of David (Jackye) Buzzell of St. Louis, MO; Jonathan (Leslie) Buzzell of Lexington, SC; and Amy Buzzell of Arlington, VA. She is preceded in death by her daughter Margaret Buzzell (Bethesda, MD) and her parents Clyde Gray (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) and Alice Harden Brown (Melrose, MA). Survivors include her brother Carlton (Charlene) Gray of Concord, MA, a grandson, and six granddaughters. Born and raised in Melrose, MA, Bev was a graduate of the Katherine Gibbs College in Boston, MA. During her career, she worked as the assistant to the Dean of Colby Sawyer College in New London, NH, before becoming an advertising manager for The Christian Science Monitor in New York City. Once married, she lived with her family in Montgomery Village, MD until moving to Pendleton, SC in 1992. There, she worked with the Clemson Environmental Institute until retirement, during which she enjoyed her involvement with the Clemson Women’s Club, the Clemson Book Club, and the Clemson Garden Club. Bev was a gourmet cook and an avid gardener who thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of entertaining friends and family. As a lifelong member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, MA, Bev was also an active member of her local branch churches in Chevy Chase, MD, Gaithersburg, MD, and in Seneca, SC, where she was a member of their board of directors, taught Sunday School, and served as first and second reader. Bev will be interred in Camden, ME following a private family memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Church of Christ, Scientist, S. Townville and 6th Streets, Seneca, SC 29678. Friends will be received at an informal reception in celebration of Bev’s life on Monday, April 19th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Clemson’s Madren Center.
