ELGIN - Funeral service with military honors for Gordon Wade Markham, 72, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church with burial in church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church. Mr. Markham died Sunday, May 13, 2007. Born in Elizabeth City, N.C., he was a son of the late James S. and Matilda Bateman Markham. He retired from the United States Army and received his associate degree in criminal justice from Midlands Technical College. An avid NASCAR fan, he enjoyed woodworking and traveling. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and the IGA Bojangles Coffee Club. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathleen Markham; daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline M. and Kenny Blair of Elgin; grandson, Christopher Blair and his wife, Patricia of Columbia; granddaughter, Kimberly M. Blair of Elgin; sister, Alice Chambers of Elizabeth City, N.C.; sister-in-law, Eloise Ross of Elgin; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cats, T-Bug and T-Tom.
