MANNING-A memorial service for John Bruce Eddings, 58, will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Rev. Charles Ahtonen will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday 1:30-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gateway Baptist Church, 536 Mimosa Street, Sumter, S.C. 29150. Mr. Eddings died Saturday, February 13, 2010. Born in Camden, he was a son of the late Ludie Bruce Eddings and Doris Kennington Eddings. He was a vocational teacher with the Department of Correction. He was a member of the South Carolina Teachers Association and enjoyed fishing and shrimping. Mr. Eddings was a member of Gateway Baptist Church. Surviving are his brothers, Stephen L. Eddings and Scott Gainey of Camden; aunt, Ruby Powers; double first cousins and cousins; and faithful friends, Robert E. “Bob” Jones and his wife, Margie and Christy Nettles.
