Obituary of James M. Banks
BETHUNE - Funeral service for James Melvin Banks, 76, will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Hebron Freewill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Jack Cobb and Rev. Tommy Brown will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to Mt. Hebron Freewill Baptist Church or Hospice of Kershaw County.
Mr. Banks died Friday, November 20, 2009. Born in the DeKalb Community of Kershaw County, he was a son of the late Melton and Bessie Banks. He retired in 1992 as a Superintendent with Creed Construction. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was a craftsman always working with his hands. He was a member of Mt. Hebron Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Jeanette M. Banks; children, Bivian (Allen) Napper of Kershaw, Larry Banks of Bethune, Roger (Brinda) Banks of Georgetown, Marilyn (Ray) Griffin of Camden, Russell (Tammy) of Kershaw, Tammie (Keith) Moore of Georgetown, Wendy (Jamie) Willis of Kershaw, and Robin Hall of Kershaw; sister, Gladys (Ray) Largura of Naples, Fla.; grandchildren, Brant Boan, James L. Banks Jr., Darrell Banks, Raymond Griffin, Rebekah Griffin, Magan Banks, Kelsee Moore, Keith “Bubba” Moore, Derrick Moore, and Danny Moore; and great-grandchildren, Nathan Beckham, Kane Boan, Ally Beckham, Brantley Boan, Lacey Banks, Jordan Banks, and Madison Banks. He was predeceased by sister, Louvinia Maltby; and brothers, Willard Banks and Thomas Banks.
