Madeline Cooke Obituary
LAKE WATEREE-Funeral service for Madeline Whitley Cooke will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Rev. John Mims will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday 4-6 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church Building Fund.
Mrs. Cooke went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 13, 2009. Her beloved husband of 56 years, George Cooke; two brothers, George and Carter Whitley; and daughter-in-law, Carol K. Cooke precedes her in death.
Mrs. Cooke was a long time servant and member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Lugoff and a 25 year retired employee of Belk Store in Camden.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Wardlaw and her husband, Billy of Charlotte, N.C.; son, Darrel Cooke and his wife, Wanda of Lugoff; granddaughters, Terri Rudy (Mark) of Charlotte, N.C., Dawn Wardlaw of Charlotte, N.C., Anna Smith (Clay) of Jacksonville, Fla., Erin Stephenson (Rob) of Daniel Island, S.C., and Jessica Peake of Anderson, S.C.; grandson, Adam Peake of Clemson, S.C.; and great-grandchildren, Jackson and Nicholas Rudy of Charlotte, N.C., and McRae Stephenson of Daniel Island, S.C.. Mrs. Cooke was the first child of 12 children born to Doc and Beatrice Whitley on January 27, 1925. She is also survived by her sisters, Mildred Parker of Lugoff, and Annette Thompson of Virginia Beach, Va., and brothers, Clarence Whitley of Pascagoula, Miss., Milton Whitley of Chesapeake, Va., Billy Whitley of Hanahan, S.C., Bobby Whitley of Okla., Paul Whitley of Norfolk, Va., Ernest Whitley of Chesapeake, Va., and Gene Whitley of Virginia Beach, Va.
