ELGIN - Funeral service for William Carter, Jr., 54, will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m. at St. Matthews Baptist Church with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Rev. Charles Davis will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday 6-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to St. Matthews Baptist Church Building Fund, 759 Longtown Road, Lugoff, S.C. 29078. Mr. Carter died Monday, October 12, 2009. Born in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late William Carter and Sarah English. He was an avid sports fan and loved spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Rubye Carter; daughters, Ashley and Lauren Carter; sister, Vastine Carter; and brothers, Odell Harris and Johnny Harris. He was predeceased by a brother, Bobby English.
