Obituary of David Leo Shoemake

CAMDEN - Funeral service for David Leo Shoemake, 85, will be held Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Hermitage Baptist Church with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Rev. Dr. Condy Richardson and Rev. Donald West will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to Hermitage Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Camden, Arthritis Foundation or Alzheimer’s Foundation. Mr. Shoemake, husband of the late Margaret Dixon Shoemake, died Sunday, August 16, 2009. Born in McBee, he was a son of the late Ervin Shoemake and Queen Blackwell Vincent. He was a United States Army veteran having served in WW II. He retired from Hermitage Cotton Mill where he was a supervisor. Mr. Shoemake was a dedicated member of Hermitage Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Director for many years. He also was a former Deacon, served on the Board of Trustees, and was very involved in the childrens programs. He enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Surviving are his son, Danny Shoemake of Camden; sister, Lou Beth Kelly of Camden; and grandchildren, David Wesley Shoemake and Michaela Elizabeth Shoemake. He was predeceased by son, Randy Shoemake; sisters, Bonnie Webb, Evelyn Dabney, Hettie Davenport, Annie Ruth Ghent, and Mary Nell Vincent; and brothers, Erva Lee Shoemake and F.A. Shoemake.
