Obituary of Jack Smith Hudson

ELGIN - Funeral service for Jack Smith Hudson, 59, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Johns United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Leesburg Road, Columbia. The Rev. John Mims will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, 7 Richland Park Dr. Suite 7215, Columbia, SC 29203, American Cancer Society, or St. Johns United Methodist Church Build Fund. Mr. Hudson died Saturday, April 11, 2009. Born in Walterboro, S.C., he was a son of the late Charles Willis and Goldie Ritter Hudson. He retired from Duke Power and formerly owned and operated Hudson’s House of Flowers with his wife, Susan. He was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing, reading, and woodcrafts. Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Susan Williams Hudson; sons and daughters-in-law, Clay and Stacey Summers of Rock Hill, Rodney and Tina Summers of Elgin, and Brandon and Brandy Hudson of Lugoff; brothers, Marvin Dean Hudson of Columbia, S.C. and Kisler Kirkland Hudson of Cotton Town, Tenn.; grandchildren, MacKenzie Summers, Thomas Summers, Ella Grace Summers, Vance Summers, Bryce Summers, Katherine Rabon, and Little Jack Hudson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Herbert Purvis Hudson, Thomas Andrew Hudson, Robert Caroll Hudson, and Oscar Ray Hudson; and a baby sister.
