LUGOFF – Service for John W. Stone, 74, also of Waterford, Conn. will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. The Rev. Mike Vinson will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Mr. Stone died Monday, May 6, 2013. Born in Florence, he was the son of the late Warwick Stone and Ida Mae Oakley Brown. Upon graduation from Columbia High School, He served in the United States Navy. He attended Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C. and was a member of the VFW. He enjoyed dancing, traveling, fishing and was a car enthusiast. Surviving are his daughters, Catherine Stone of Westbrook, Conn. And Janet Stone Battista of Branford, Conn.; sons, Thomas M. Stone of Niantic, Conn. and Daniel W. Stone of Niantic, Conn.; sister, Linda Brown Corder of Lake Wateree; brother, Eugene Brown (Debbie) of Swansea; 6 grandchildren; a special friend, Rita Watson; and beloved family friend, Bertha Brown. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Stone.
