Obituary of Alma Lorene Moore
SPRINGHILL-Funeral service for Alma Lorene Moore, 87, will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. John United Methodist Church. Springhill, S.C. with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Vince Halter and Rev. Mills Peebles will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to Alma White Moore Memorial Fund.
Mrs. Moore, wife of the late Carl L. Moore, died Saturday, March 21, 2009. Born at home in an area called “Little Egypt”, Lee County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Britt White and Amanda Elizabeth Peebles White. She was a graduate of Central High School, Springhill, S.C. and attended Asheville Normal Teachers College, Asheville, N.C. She retired from Beard Oil Company in Camden after 35 years and then worked for Kershaw County Hospital for over 18 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Saint John United Methodist Church and served as the church treasurer for many years.
Surviving are her daughter, Carlene Moore (John W.) Boykin of Springhill, S.C.; sisters, Julia White Pacuilan and Margaret White Joyner; grandchildren, Sherry Boykin (Billy M.) Grainger, and Wiley (Misty) Boykin; and 3 great-grandchildren, Tyler Maxwell Grainger, Kayla Lorene Boykin, and Hunter Drake Boykin. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Lou White Grubbs; and brothers, Napier White, Ben White, William White, Frank White, Ralph White, and A.B. White.
