Born on August 22, 1948, Jim died Thursday, February 5, 2009 after a short bout with cancer. We can honestly say that he was truly loved by many. Since moving to Camden, South Carolina in 1972 when he married his wife, our mama, Cindy Player Crisp he made more friends than any other person we know. This was demonstrated over the past few days as people from the past 36 years came to see him.
Our daddy was born in San Antonio, Texas to Velma Lucille Dove Crisp and the late Harry James Crisp. At the age of 19, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he became friends with our mom’s cousin, Eddie Hayes. Through that friendship he met our mom and they married on June 17, 1972. They stayed in Camden where she was born and raised. From that point on, even before they had children of their own, their house was the place to hang out. Then from one generation to another they constantly welcomed new friends.
In 1978, he and our mom started Camden Plumbing and built it successfully from the ground up. Running the company was one of the many things that he really enjoyed. He also enjoyed skydiving for many years and was an avid deer hunter. Most importantly he loved his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Cindy Player Crisp, daughter and son-in-law, Charity and Phil Kambeitz; daughter and her fiancé, Meg Schoolfield and Jason Healey; his pride and joy his grandchildren, Morgan and Dakota Schoolfield and Camryn, Katie, Randy and Kyle Kambeitz; mother-in-law, Eunice Player; mother, Velma Lucille Dove Crisp; twin brother, Johnnie Crisp and his wife, Margie; brothers, Donald Crisp and his wife, Rita, Willie Crisp and his wife, Sandy, Lee Crisp and his wife, Robin and Lloyd Crisp; sisters, Marilyn Crisp Hammonds and her husband, Lloyd, Donna Michelle Crisp Little and her husband, Jimmy, and Cindy Jo Crisp Allen; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and many “adopted” children who consider him a second daddy. He is predeceased by his father, Harry James Crisp; father-in-law, Spain Player; sister, Bonnie Crisp Smith; and one of his best friends, Randy Shoemake.
He will always be loved and missed as a husband, daddy, son, brother, friend and most of all Papa.
