LUGOFF-Funeral service for Richard H. Eckerson, 71, will be held Friday at 12:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to be held at 1:00 p.m. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 195. Mr. Eckerson, husband of the late Barbara Jackson Eckerson, died Monday, January 26, 2009. Born in Schenectady, N.Y., he was a son of the late Harold R. and Irene Hyson Eckerson. He served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the American Legion Post 195, a trustee with the Camden – Lugoff Elks Lodge #2603, and a member of the 9th and 10th Horse Calvary Buffalo Soldier Association. He was also a member of NRA. He is survived by a son Richard Eckerson of Mattydale, N.Y.; sister, Nancy Burchill of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother, Thomas Eckerson of Mattydale, N.Y.; grandson, Ethan Eckerson; 7 nieces; 1 nephew; 19 great nieces and nephews; and 9 great-great-nieces and nephews.
