Obituary of John Larrick Zirkle

LUGOFF-Graveside service for John Larrick Zirkle, Jr., 65, will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Bethune Baptist Church Cemetery, Bethune. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, Lugoff. Rev. Dr. Charles Everett and Rev. John Larrick Zirkle, III, will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Mr. Zirkle died Monday, January 26, 2009. Born in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late John Larrick Zirkle, Sr. and Lee Warren Hammer Zirkle. He retired from the Department of Health and Environmental Control where he was the EMS Training Coordinator. Mr. Zirkle served as the Fire Chief with the Bethune Fire Department for 10 years. He served on the National Board of the American Heart Association and was an American Heart Association CPR instructor. He also was a member of the Kershaw County Baptist Association Disaster Relief Team. Mr. Zirkle was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served as an Elder, R.A. Director, and former Sunday school teacher. He lived a life of devoted service to his family, church and community. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Emmie Hunter Zirkle; sons, John Larrick Zirkle, III and his wife, Kathy of Sandusky, Ohio, and Lee Warren Zirkle and his wife, Kimberlee of Elgin; sister, Coralie Bishop of St. Pauls, N.C.; grandchildren, Carrin, Andrew, John Mark, Daniel, Brandi, and Hayley; and great-grandchildren, John Lee, Kimberlee, and Kadence.
