RIDGEWAY – Affectionately known as “Aunt Ruth,” Ruth Brown, 89, passed away in her home on May 2, 2013, and went to be with the Lord after several years of declining health. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Wildwood Worship Center in Lugoff, S.C. The Reverend Gerald Brown and the Reverend Gene Brown will officiate. Burial services will follow at Quaker Cemetery in Camden, S.C. The family will receive friends at Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff on Friday, May 3, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Door of Hope Ministries or Wildwood Worship Center. Aunt Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, Godly prayer warrior and teacher. She was a member of Door of Hope Ministries in Camden. Aunt Ruth taught and ministered for 57 years in numerous churches, including Bethel Worship Center, Freewill Baptist, Door of Hope, and Wildwood Worship Center, as well as conference retreats. She taught in adult classes, children and youth groups, VBS, Sunday Schools, and Bible studies. She conducted cottage prayer meetings and Bible studies in her home. Aunt Ruth loved and cared for people, and her home was always filled with homemade cooking and people. Her hobbies included fishing and cooking, and you could find her on the lake in her jon boat late into the evening. Her door was always open and her phone was always ringing. “Give me your hands and let me pray for you,” was a familiar phrase we all knew and loved. Her ministry was grounded in love, and she touched the lives and hearts of countless people. She dearly loved her family and friends and devoted her whole heart and life to serving God. Aunt Ruth, you are an anointed teacher, mighty prayer warrior, Godly role model, wise counselor, loving mother, beloved friend and the world’s best cook and fisherman! You’ve made a difference in all of our lives; we’ve seen God in your eyes. You are a remarkable woman who influenced, guided and inspired many people. You are loved and will be missed by all. Aunt Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wofford Brown; her son, Steve Brown; and granddaughter, Melissa Brown. Her siblings include her deceased sisters and brothers, Mayola Baxley, Gladys Newman, Jessie Gambrell, Robert Sharp, and Clarence Sharp. She is survived by her 3 sons, Rev. Gerald Brown (Diane), Rev. Gene Brown (Cathy), Mike Brown (Patty); and daughter-in-law, Theresa Robertson (Lewis). She had 12 grandchildren, Michele Rabon(Phil), Pam Gregory (Bobby), Lin Christmas, Gene Brown, Jr. (Gretchen), Jenny Leonard (Kyle), Lisa Brown, Sherri Stroud (Jamie), Chris Brown, Paul Brown (Melissa), Alena Logan, Robby McKnight (Shayna), and David McKnight (Nicole). Aunt Ruth had 16 great-grandchildren, Phillip Rabon, Jessi Small (Larry), Heather Lovett, Emilee Brown, Logan Brown, Connor Christmas, Sydney Christmas, B.J. Gregory, Jacob McKnight, Shea Leonard, Jay Stroud, Breanna Stroud, Leila Leonard, Jordan Kisielewski, Taylor Brown, and Maven McKnight. She had 3 great-great grandchildren, Marley Small, Kendall Small, and Evan Small.
