BETHUNE - Funeral service for Betty Gardner Martin, 60, will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Timrod Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. David Robinson will officiate.The family will receive friends Wednesday 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Timrod Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the Timrod Baptist Church Youth Fund or Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. Mrs. Martin died Monday, December 1, 2008. Born in Darlington, S.C., she was a daughter of the late William Hampton Gardner and Effie Mae Hall. She was a member of Timrod Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was a former member of Bethune Baptist Church and Harmony Baptist Church where she also taught Sunday school. Mrs. Martin loved to cook as well as raise money to help others. Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Glenn Lester Martin; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Martin and Tony Sullivan of Bethune, and Patricia Martin and Phil Crawford of Bethune; sisters, Ann Driggers, and Janice Hatten; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam and Shelby Gardner, Laverne “Bit” and Shirley Gardner, Charles and Alice Gardner, Donald and Debra Gardner, and Bill Gardner; and grandchildren, Olivia Alexis Martin, Caleb Glenn Martin, Chloe Rae Crawford, Rebecca Crawford, Ashton Sullivan, and Breanna Sullivan. She was predeceased by sisters, Patty Conners and Shirleen Stephens
