Obituary of Deborah Pace McCaskill
ELGIN - Deborah Pace McCaskill (63) went to be with the Lord and Savior on June 15, 2018, after a brave seven-year battle against metastatic cancer. Born July 11, 1954 in Marion, SC, Debbie was a devout Christian and long-time member of Sumter First Church of God.
Debbie was a dedicated educator for more than 16 years, providing her students respect, encouragement and opportunity. Debbie left teaching to support her beloved husband Dale’s company, SouthCo in 1990. Together, the two forged a successful business until his untimely death in 2011. Despite a diagnosis of Stage IV cancer, Debbie continued to operate a thriving business until her final day. Debbie was a compassionate employer who shielded her employees during lean times and provided extra support for staff during a time of need.
Debbie was an avid tennis player, stellar cook, exquisite home decorator and known for planning and hosting elegant social gatherings. Many fond memories were forged with friends and family during her lavish parties at the Carolina Cup. Debbie had a passion for beach music and regularly enjoyed her dearly loved husband’s vocal performances with multiple Beach Music groups. Debbie had a particular fondness for shopping that was passed to her niece Caroline and daughter Lauren. They all shared many memorable hours together. Debbie loved girl’s weekends, dinners and trips with her close friends – The Ya-Ya’s (Dianne, Cindy, Jenny, Fairy-Anne, Jean and Joan).
Debbie was pre-deceased by her parents Johnny Albert Pace and Will Lou Hyman Pace and her beloved spouse Samuel Dale McCaskill. Surviving Debbie are her daughter Lauren McCaskill Ivey (Chris), sister Luanne Pace Hart (Jeff) and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and other family members.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Debbie’s medical team who supported her brave battle against cancer. Her cancer team: Dr. Scott Sommers, Teresa Patterson and the many wonderful staff at South Carolina Oncology Associates. Her surgical team: Dr. Sidney Morrison, Dr. James Nottingham and staff. Her family physician and friend Dr. Sharon Risinger. Her hospice team: Amy Williams, Brandi McIver and the staff at Kershaw Health and Hospice.
A funeral service is planned for Tuesday, June 19th at 1:00 PM at Sumter First Church of God to be conducted by dear friend Pastor Ron Bower. A private graveside service will follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Sumter First Church of God and/or the American Cancer Society.
