CASSATT – A memorial service for Shelby Rodgers Watts, 81, will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home with a reception to follow at Beaverdam Baptist Church. Burial will be private.
Mrs. Watts passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018. Born on April 25, 1937 in Camden, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Manning Rodgers and Linnie Hearon Rodgers. Her first job was at Zemp Drug Store; it was there that she met her husband, Joe. Later, she went to work for South Carolina National Bank where she worked her way up to head teller and retired from banking in 1988 after 28 years of service. Mrs. Watts loved playing basketball where her team at Midway High School was state champion during her last 3 years. She graduated in 1954. Being an avid reader, Mrs. Watts would read anything from books, magazines and especially the newspaper, which was saved for her nighttime reading. She was a dedicated member of Beaverdam Baptist Church where she faithfully served in the nursery and VBS, which she loved. Having loved her family very much, she enjoyed getting together for a meal on Sundays and special occasions. Above all, Mrs. Watts loved her Lord and Savior, whom she served from 12 years of age until her passing.
Surviving is her husband, Joseph “Joe” Perry Watts; daughters, Elizabeth W. ‘Libby” Cork (John) and Lynn Gamble; grandchildren, Lauren E. Cork, Kristian Gamble, Brandon Gamble, Michael Cales and Matthew Cales; great-grandchild, Gray L. Gamble; brother, William “Bootsie” Rodgers (Vivian). She was predeceased by her siblings, Barbara Ann Rodgers, Grace West, Clyburn Rodgers, James Rodgers and Wayne Rodgers.
