Obituary of Samuel Dixon

LUGOFF – Funeral services for Samuel Henry Dixon, 74, will be held Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The Rev. Michael Leonhardt and the Rev. Donnie Dixon will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or St. John’s United Methodist Church. Mr. Dixon passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018. Born in Camden, he was a son of the late David Clarence and Inez Ross Dixon. Mr. Dixon served in the U.S. Navy and received his Naval Aviator Wings after completing training in Pensacola, FL and Corpus Christi, TX. He served on the Essex aircraft carrier and upon his honorable discharge from the Navy had accumulated over 2,500 hours of flight time. Mr. Dixon graduated with an Associate Degree from Wingate College. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 17, and the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Patricia Mary Dixon; daughter, Alisa Martin (Frank) of Tega Cay; son, Neil Dixon (Kristen) of Mt. Pleasant; sisters, Virginia Langley and Jackie Johnson; a brother, Marion J. Dixon; and grandchildren, Sarah and Ava Martin, Adelyn, Kelsea and Matthew Dixon. He was predeceased by siblings, Ross Dixon, Carl Dixon, Ollie Kirkland, and David “Bill” Dixon, Jr.
