ELGIN – Services for Jean Elizabeth Smith Dorn, 81, of Columbia, SC, will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. followed by a 1:00 p.m. visitation with family and 1:30 p.m. funeral service at Capital City Baptist Church where she was a member. Mrs. Dorn passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 18, 2018. Born in Mullins, SC on November 19, 1936 to parents French McKinley Smith Sr. and Blanche Turner Smith, she was baptized as a child in the Little Pee Dee River while attending Gapway Baptist Church. Mrs. Dorn graduated from Columbia College in 1958 with a double major in Home Economics and Biology. After teaching Home Economics her first year in Manning, SC, she relocated to Columbia with her husband to teach 7th grade Life Science at E.L. Wright Middle School for 30 years. Mrs. Dorn was honored with Teacher of the Year award in 1974. Her love of teaching brought much joy and fulfillment to her life while blessing so many children with her amazing gift. Reading, sewing, gardening, and cooking were some of her favorite hobbies during retirement. Mrs. Dorn was a beloved wife, wonderful mother and cherished friend who will be deeply missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 45 years William C. Dorn, her children William C. Dorn Jr., “Billy” and twins Nancy and Neil Dorn. Surviving are daughters Beth Dorn Linhardt (Paul) of Chapin, SC, and Jeannie Dorn Brazell (Travis) of Elgin, SC; grandchildren Lisa Linhardt Vaughan (Peter), Laura Elizabeth Linhardt, Michael John Linhardt (Melissa), Leslie Linhardt Lindler (Kyle) and Ryan McKinley Brazell; great-grandchildren Shane William Vaughan and Trig Avery Vaughan.
