Obituary of Gladys E. Herbert
CAMDEN - A Celebration of Life Service for Rev. Gladys E. Herbert, 80, will be held Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. The family will receive friends Sunday 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Herbert is survived by her brother, Donald Swain of Minneapolis, Minn.; 6 children, Eva Madison and Esther Rogers, both of Oswego, N.Y., Benjamin, Eugene, David, and Daniel Herbert all of Camden; 8 grandchildren, Angela, Melissa, David Allen, Brooke, Creasie, Zachary Herbert all of Camden, Janeen Carioti and Matthew Rogers, both of N.Y.; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Herbert was born in Brooklyn, New York, where upon graduation from the New York Institute of Art moved to Canisteo, New York and raised her family. She was an Ordained Bishop and dedicated her life to her Lord Jesus Christ through her activities in childrens, arts, music and adult ministries.
Mrs. Herbert moved to Camden, in 1985 upon the passing of her mother and second husband, Benjamin H. Herbert, Jr. of whom she will be laid to rest beside in New York. Mrs. Herbert was a valued President and member of the Camden Art Association and Society.
She was a member of the Camden Church in the Garden. She was loved and respected by many and will forever remain in our hearts.
