Obituary of Richard Preston Parker
BETHUNE – Funeral service with full military honors for Richard Preston Parker, 66, will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to KershawHealth Hospice.
Mr. Parker died Friday, march 22, 2013. Born in Darlington, he was the son of the late Clyde and Elizabeth Sowell Parker. He retired from the United States Army after 22 years of service. He served with the 101st Airborne and the 82nd Airborne and served in Vietnam.
Mr. Parker was a life member of the VFW Post 3096. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching T.V.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Anne Guest Parker; daughter, Sandra Pauline Johnson (Tony) of Gallivants Ferry, S.C.; son, Richard Preston Parker Jr. (Michelle) of Smith Station, Ala.; brothers, William Parker (Ruby Jean) of Bethune, Clyde Parker (Margaret) of Savannah, Ga., and Liston “Rock” Parker (Geraldine) of Hartsville, S.C.; sister, Inez Black of Columbia, Janet Griggs of Columbia, and Barbara Thompson of Hendersonville, N.C.; 5 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy LaBoyne; and grandson, Joshua Parker.
