Obituary of Fred Barnes

CAMDEN - Funeral service with military honors for Ben Fredrick “Fred” Barnes, 78, will be held Monday at 4:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Rev. Phillip McCoy will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Rowan Presbyterian Church Youth Fund, 818 Ridgeway Road, Lugoff, S.C. 29078 or Hospice of Kershaw County, 2001 West DeKalb Street, Camden, S.C. 29020. Mr. Barnes, husband of the late Betty Raley Barnes, died Friday, October 10, 2008. Born in Camden, he was a son of the late Ben Wilson and Altha Hough Barnes. He served in the United States Navy and retired as a Warrant Officer from the United States National Guard. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge #29 and enjoyed woodworking. Mr. Barnes was a member of Rowan Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his daughter, Becky Geiger of Lugoff; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Evelyn Barnes of Charleston and George Edward and Lois Barnes of Charlotte, N.C.; sisters, Clarine Mozingo of Bishopville and Mary Gardner of Camden; aunt, Edwilla Ham of Camden; and grandchildren, Lauren Geiger and Bobby Geiger.
