Obituary of Wallace Baxter Miles
LUGOFF - Funeral service with military honors for Wallace Baxter “Wally” Miles, 59, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Daniel Flessas will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alston Wilkes Veterans Home (Palmetto State Base Camp).
Mr. Miles died Sunday, February 11, 2007. Born in Norfolk, Va., he was a son of the late Albert Baxter and Mildred Lucille Fulcher Miles. He retired from the United States Army and served during Vietnam where he received 3 Purple Hearts. He was a member of the American Legion Post 195 and V.F.W. Post 11079.
Mr. Miles had a love for helping his fellow veterans and was one of the founders of the Alston Wilkes Society in Columbia. He was an avid golfer and a member of Green Hill Golf Course. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and was a former volunteer fireman with Lugoff Fire Department.
Surviving are his wife of 10 years, Michele M. Miles; sons, Curtis Miles and his wife, Pam of Lugoff, and James Miles of Columbia; brother, Danny Miles and his wife, Sherrianne of New Mexico; grandchildren, Megan Miles, Katie Miles, Ansley Miles, Erin Miles, and Sara Ann Miles.
