Obituary of Carolyn Loretta Hinson

ELGIN – Tears of sadness and tears of joy fall from many eyes at the passing of Carolyn Loretta Hinson, better known to her family as, “Loby”. God provided perfect peace on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at her home in Elgin after a 7-month battle with cancer. God ushered her into heaven and said, “Come my child, a place is waiting for you to give you peace and rest.” Surviving her in death is her husband, Howard Ray Hinson, Sr. “Buck” of 59 years, who resides in Elgin. She leaves behind three sons, Chuck (Pam) Hinson, Tim (Jan) Hinson, and Michael Hinson, all of Columbia. Grandchildren include, Brice Hinson, Kelly Hinson Hill, Ashley Hinson and Rebecca Hinson. She adored her 2 great-grandsons, Lucas and Connor. Loby was 1 of 8 children of Abie and Evelyn Kelly and her siblings include, Claudette (Paul) Tribble of Montgomery, AL, Patricia (Craig) Alemi of Baltimore, MD, Gene (Vickie) Kelly, Terry Kelly, and MaryGail Douglas of Winnsboro, SC. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Spencer Kelly and Abie Kelly, Jr. The footprint she leaves behind is phenomenal in the number of lives she touched. Everybody loved her that met her. Family was a priority for her and she was always there. She was employed by Palmetto Health and known there as, “Carolyn”. She cherished the many friends she made during her 30 plus years working there and they became part of her family. She proudly proclaimed another extended family and that was her Spears Creek Baptist Church family of Elgin. She loved Rev. Sweet and her church family. They have been a tremendous source of support. During her last weeks, there are not enough words to express the care that was given by her sister, Claudette. The care Loby received cannot be matched anywhere. The family would like to express gratitude to Cindy, the hospice nurse, for her care during Loretta’s battle to make the most of every day count for somebody else. A memorial service for Loretta will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Spears Creek Baptist Church (116 Spears Creek Church Lane, Elgin, SC 29045), with a visitation at the church from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 2pm. The family suggests memorials to Spears Creek Church in lieu of flowers.
