Obituary of Grover C. Gaskin
KERSHAW – A graveside service for Grover C. Gaskin, 98, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Camden.
Mr. Gaskin passed away at home on June 26, 2017. Born in Greenville, SC, on September 8, 1918, he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Gaskin, Sr. and Leila Cason Gaskin. After attending the University of South Carolina, he received his B.S. degrees in Electrical and Civil Engineering. He was a veteran of World War II where he served as a Naval Lieutenant in communications.
Mr. Gaskin was known as W4GZO to the amateur radio world and a member of the QCWA club. He was an active Lifetime member of the Camden Lion’s Club, where he served as president and many other positions with a perfect attendance of over 60 years.
Mr. Gaskin was a member of First Baptist Church of Camden, which he and his wife joined upon moving to Kershaw county after his retirement from J.E. Sirrine Co. in Greenville, SC in 1988.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gaskin was predeceased by his wife, Frances Salter Gaskin; son, Grover Owen Gaskin; sister, Elizabeth Vermont.
He is survived by his son, George Salter Gaskin (Karan) of Kershaw, SC; 6 grandchildren, Scott Gaskin (Beth) of Baton Rouge, La, Donna Sheldon of Mauldin, SC, Kristin Logan (Casey) of Chester VA, Kelly Gaskin of Elgin, SC, Christopher Gaskin of Elgin, SC and Allison Gaskin of York, SC; 8 great-grandchildren.
