Obituary of Claude Barrett
LUGOFF – Funeral service for Claude Albert Barrett, 78, will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The Rev. Albert Allen will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Barrett died Friday, March 1, 2013. Born in Heath Springs, he was a son of the late William Chapmon and Fannie Adams Barrett. He served in the United States Army. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the University of South Carolina and retired from a lifelong career at DuPont where he was a Registered Mechanical Engineer. He was also the leader of Boy Scout Troop 311.
Mr. Barrett was a member of the Toast Masters International, S.C. Society of Professional Engineers, Lugoff Optimist Club and the American Legion – James Leroy Belk Post 17.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Jo Lynn Barrett; daughter, Sharon Barrett Ingram of Denver Colo.; son, Todd Albert Barrett (Kelly Lynn) of Lugoff; brother, William A. “Bill” Barrett of Camden; sister, Betty Austin of Pickens, S.C.; and grandchildren, Melinda Kurhan, and Chandler Barrett. He was predeceased by a brother, James Barrett.
