Obituary of Carl R. Coleman
ELGIN – Mr. Carl R. Coleman, 80, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 23, 2017. Born on August 18, 1936 in Blaney, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Rufus Coleman and Beulah Medlin Coleman. Mr. Coleman proudly served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Iceland. Known as “CC Rider”, he retired from Southeastern Freight Lines, G&P Trucking and Coleman Trucking. He was a member of Spears Creek Baptist Church and taught the Senior Sunday School class for 25 years and also served as a deacon. Mr. Coleman loved to sing in church and praise his Savior. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Maria Marinosdottir Coleman; children, Julie Hodges (Mike), Debbie Murphy, Marty Coleman, Cathy Zobel (Steve), and Christi Coleman; grandchildren, Stephen Hodges, Tyler Murphy, Austin Murphy, Bradley Barnhill, Emily Barnhill and Samantha Zobel; great-grandsons, Mason Hodges and Elliot Hodges; brother, Randy Coleman; and sister, Mildred Watts (Wade). He was predeceased by brother, Colie Coleman; and son-in-law, Donnie Murphy.
Funeral service for Mr. Coleman will be held on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Spears Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Greg Sweet and the Rev. John O’Cain will officiate. Burial will be held on Monday at 12:00 p.m. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home and Sunday following the service in the Family Life Center.
