Obituary of Gary Gregory

CAMDEN – Funeral service for Gary Deland “Hootie” Gregory, 70, will be held on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. The Rev. Richard Cameron and the Rev. Joe Stines will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday 3:30-5:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Mr. Gregory died on Friday, March 17, 2017. Born in Camden, he was the son of the late Gary Gregory and Mary Cameron Mayer. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Army and retired from DuPont. He was a member of the American Legion Post 17. Mr. Gregory was an avid Gamecock fan and enjoyed sports fishing and NASCAR. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother and will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Virginia Watkins “Jenny” Gregory; daughters, Dorothy Schwenk (Chuck) of Dallas, Ga. And Lisa Toth (Tibor) of Matthews, N.C.; son, Greg Gregory of Camden; brothers, Terry Gregory (Nancy) of Lugoff and Andy Mayer (Prosperity) of Maryland; sister, Mandy Roger (Roland) of Camden; and 5 grandchildren, Avery Biles, Hunter Pelletier, Tibor, Hollis and Hayes Toth. He was predeceased by his step-father, Andrew Mayer.
